New Daodejing and Zuowang Class
I have been teaching a class in Daoist Meditation on Zoom for three years, and I am now starting a new class October 10th, 2021. It will have a rolling enrollment for the first year. The class is based on the teachings of my mentor Liu Ming. Once each month we study a chapter of the Daodejing and some of its many traditional commentaries together for two hours on a Sunday. We then recite the chapter each morning on our own before practicing Zuowang (sitting-forgetting) meditation. Zuowang is the basis for all Daoist practices. The class also explores Daoist history and tradition. After the first year I will begin giving transmissions for the practice of Jindan (The Golden Elixir) which is the basis for all internal martial arts and is a key part of Daoist ritual.
The Daodejing (Tao Te Ch’ing) is the central and most sacred book of the Daoist Religion. Assembled by the immortal Laozi (Lao Tsu) into 81 short potent verses around 350 BCE, the Daodejing has been the subject of some 2000 commentaries in Chinese and has been translated into English more than a hundred times. Its central idea, wuwei, literally not-doing, or without-intent, is explored throughout the text and points to a type of practice or cultivation which is self-revealing (ziran).
I make myself available for conversations throughout the month because the process of Daoist transmission requires regular interactions and feedback loops in order to come to full fruition. Studying with me is a commitment, not something one can dip in and out of.
We are starting the New Group October 10th (9am Mountain Time) with a rolling admission over the next few months, contact me by email if you are interested. Here are the pre-scheduled dates: 10/10/21, 11/7/21, 12/5/21, 1/9/22, 2/6/22, 3/6/22, 4/3/22, 5/8/22
